3.8% Medicare tax on investment income for single taxpayers (>$200,000), married taxpayers (>$250,000), (>$150,000) if filing separately. Applies also to estates ant trusts.

"Investment Income" tax now includes income from interest, dividends, annuities, capital gains, royalties, and rents. Selling a primary residence now falls under capital gains and the tax rate will increase by 3.8% by 2013 (You may save by selling a house sooner rather than later). This also applies for second homes or other investment real estate.
